Can’t Open Your E-Mailbox? Good Luck

I was fascinated by one of the article by Randall Stross Published in New York Times. The idea presented in an article shows the problem encountered by me, last month. Going office 9-5, spending weekend in cock-tail parties and checking e-mail daily is a routine of everyday life. It is a daily routine now a day to check E-mail. What would you do if you cannot open your email? You wake up in a morning, plugged in your computer and put your user name and password as you always do, but suddenly you received a message which says, “Your username and Password do not match?”.

If you are a Gmail user as me, what would you do after unsuccessful attempts? By definition, “Gmail is a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that email can be more intuitive, efficient, and useful. And maybe even fun. After all, Gmail has: Less spam, Mobile access and Lots of space” but no support services. There are no possibilities of talking with any customer support representative. Neither does Google offers any toll-free number nor discussion forums which would tell you about the next future steps. Microsoft and Yahoo offer some phone support to their paid e-mail customers.

According to Mr. Glotzbach who works with Google’s business customers says, it cannot deliver “one to one” support services to their customers. Google says it has “tens of millions” of Gmail customers without being too specific.

A message -“We apologize for any inconvenience you're experiencing by not being able to access Gmail. To resolve this issue as quickly as possible, please follow the troubleshooting steps” is displayed when you cannot access your account. Follow the steps and you will be asked to answer security question. One of the key to getting back your lost username and password is by answering to security question. But what if you do not remember the security question? Then, try it simply means that standard security questions will not be enough. As a normal Google user, once you lost your password and you do not remember your security question-then I’m sorry, but you cannot access your E-mailbox anymore. There is only one alternative, which is to open an entire new account. It is again frustrating and time consuming task, it is like saying, you lost your mobile phone now buy a new one. One company which provides phone service or customer service is Netflix. It has 375 customer service representatives which are enough to handle calls from 8.4 million customers, answering them within a minute.

As said by Richard Feynman, “What I cannot create, I do not understand.” Same hold true for me too. It is difficult to understand the technology without being involved in the creation of it. Hopefully, in near future there will be some system which will remove the orthodox- username and password system. Which I hate, hopefully you do too!
